CIOB North West CPD Seminar
Bryan Woodley, Managing Director of Val-U-Therm Limited, gave a CPD seminar entitled Delivering Innovative Volume Low Energy & PassivHaus Solutions to the Chartered Institute of Building North West branch on 24th April 2014. He was invited to speak by Andy Green of Countryside Properties who is the Centre Chair for the Liverpool Centre CIOB for 2013-2014.
The talk covered the general credentials of Val-U-Therm including its environmental & thermal performance and the financial advantages of a FabricFirst approach. Design & manufacture was covered using both a video demonstrating Val-U-Therm insulation factory injection and the another video showing the design & manufacture of Val-U-Therm at Scotframe.
The excellent buildability characteristics of Val-U-Therm were demonstrated using a video of a family house that was built to be wind and weather tight to PassivHaus standards in one day.
Over 2,500 homes have now been built using Val-U-Therm and this was highlighted by noting the broad cross-section of clients using the building system. A selection of case studies were presented including one-offs such as Kingdom House, a circular house, a PassivHaus in a highly exposed setting, an art deco home and an oak frame conversion. Use of Val-U-Therm at volume was noted with reference to work for Crest Nicholson, Kier Group and the talk was concluded by a summary of the options for PassivHaus at volume.
A pleasing quantity of questions and depth of discussion followed, showing much audience interest in the topic.
