Val-U-Therm® at Offsite in the Housing Sector - 07 July 2015 - National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham
The housing shortage is a hot topic with the Housing & Planning Minister, Brandon Lewis recently stating that firm’s not using new technology in order to speed up housebuilding now "risk being left behind." Moving away from traditional methods of construction and embracing new technology is absolutely key to achieving speed of build to address the major UK housing shortage.
By exhibiting at Offsite in the Housing Sector, Val-U-Therm is highlighting the most advanced thermally-efficient building solution using British innovation and technology. Val-U-Therm® is the hybrid closed-panel building solution delivering exceptional thermal insulation and class-leading environmental sustainability in a cost-effective package. Developed by two of the UK’s largest timber frame manufacturers Walker Timber & Scotframe, Val-U-Therm® utilises the best of SIPS and timber frame technology combined with advanced materials science.
The Val-U-Therm® factory injected insulation is derived from recycled, renewable vegetable oil and provides U-values to 0.09 W/m2K. The walls, roof & floors of the building system are third-party accredited under BBA certificate number 12/4892 offering a minimum service life of 60 years. Val-U-Therm® is offered UK-wide by three companies Walker Timber Group, Scotframe Timber Engineering and Flight Timber. Terry Green of UK Sales Manager of Flight Timber will be supporting Val-U-Therm® at this event.
Bryan Woodley, Managing Director of Val-U-Therm will also contribute to the Show’s Conference by giving a presentation at 15.10 entitled “High Performance Building Envelope Design to Achieve PassivHaus Standards” - click here to download the slides.
The presentation will initially discuss the myths & realities of PassivHaus design including the costs & economics which drive the increasing emphasis towards ultra-low energy homes. A practical, straightforward, cost-effective approach to PassivHaus design will be highlighted which gives superb energy efficient homes that are warm & draught-free in winter; cool & comfortable in summer and have remarkably low energy bills. Case studies have been extracted from the 4,500 low & ultra-low energy homes that have been built using Val-U-Therm® since its launch in 2011. Practical solutions are included with independently audited costs, build times, design vs as-built performance as well as occupier feedback. One of these won the Green Apple Award for Scotland and another was a Finalist in the UK PassivHaus Awards 2014.
As housebuilding in the UK hits an all-time low, with a target of 250,000 new homes needed each year to tackle spiralling house prices and the critical shortage of affordable homes - a radical strategy is required to make up this deficit. Recent figures reported by the BBC, show that only 141,000 homes were constructed in 2014 - this target has constantly been missed.
Offsite in the Housing Sector will bring together technology leaders to discuss the opportunity this presents for offsite construction to play a major role in the coming years.
