Chartered Institute of Building CPD Seminar, 19th May 2015
CPD seminar to the Chartered Institute of Building entitled Delivering Innovation: Volume Low Energy & PassivHaus Solutions:
The spectrum of low energy homes through ultra-low energy homes to PassivHaus will be noted including the remarkably low energy bills that can result. This will include an example of a family home costing less than £95 per year to heat (independently audited study). It will be emphasised that these do not need to be serried ranks of boring square boxes but rather beautiful healthy homes that are warm & draught-proof in winter and cool & well ventilated in summer.
The general credentials of Val-U-Therm® will be covered including its thermal performance and environmental credentials. Two videos demonstrating Val-U-Therm® insulation factory injection and another showing the design & manufacture of Val-U-Therm® at Scotframe will be used to highlight these aspects.
The excellent buildability characteristics of Val-U-Therm® will also be shown using a video of a family house that was built to be wind and weather tight to PassivHaus standards in one day.
Over 4,000 homes have now been built using Val-U-Therm® and the broad cross-section of clients using the building system will be noted.
A selection of case studies will be presented including an analysis of construction cost & time; performance design vs as-built and occupier satisfaction. One-offs such as a circular house; a PassivHaus in a highly exposed setting; an art deco home and an oak frame conversion will be noted. Use of Val-U-Therm® at volume will be highlighted with reference to work for Crest Nicholson, Kier Group and East Midlands Housing. The talk will be concluded by a brief study of PassivHaus at volume.
Questions and comments will be invited during the talk as well at the end.
